The new book “Microbiota, arma segreta del il sistema immunitario. Conoscere e prendersi cura del miglior amico della nostra salute”, written by Prof. Maria Rescigno, Head of Mucosal Immunology and Microbiota Unit of Humanitas Hospital and University, has recently been published.
Our wellbeing depends on the interaction of our body with the community of microorganisms that co-habit with us, called microbiota. The microbiota plays the key role in regulating our health.
A healthy microbiota means that there is a balance between the good and bad bacteria. When the balance is broken and the microbiota is altered, we potentially run various risks: damage to the intestinal barrier, fatty liver, diabetes, up to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, or the onset of some cancers.
A healthy microbiota is essential because it also influences the role of the immune system, which is so important in times of pandemics.
So what is the way to keep the microbiota healthy?
